One of country’s biggest propane retail and distribution companies has just added to it holdings with a major acquisition in Florida.
Ferrellgas Partners, L.P. has announced the acquisition of Williams Panhandle Propane, an independent propane retailer based in Tallahassee and Carrabelle, Florida.
Williams Panhandle has been operating for more than 30 years. The deal opens new market areas for Ferrellgas and is the partnership’s fifth acquisition since August 2010.
“The addition of Williams Panhandle provides us with a significant strategic improvement in Florida’s growing state capital, as well as along its Gulf coast,” Ferrellgas president and CEO Steve Wambold said.
“This acquisition also gives us the opportunity to service an attractive market area that complements existing Ferrellgas operations. We look forward to continuing Williams’ tradition of excellent service to the residents and businesses throughout the area.”
The Williams Panhandle deal is the latest in a long and illustrious run of acquisitions that Ferrellgas has made in its 70-year history.
It has assumed control of 225 companies during that time. Ferrellgas began life as an independently-owned propane retailer based in Kansas. A.C. Ferrell established the A.C. Ferrell Butane Gas Company in Atchison, Kan in 1939.
Today, the propane giant is a publicly-traded company that is one of the largest propane retailers in the United States. Ferrellgas Partners, L.P. is a Fortune 1000 company and, through its operating partnership, Ferrellgas, L.P., serves about one million customers in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.
The partnership also launched a new business unit this year – FerrellAutogas – to service the ever-growing alternative automotive fuel market.
