The National Propane Gas Association (NPGA) announced the election of new officers for 2011-2012 after its mid-year Board of Directors meeting, the Sacramento Bee reported yesterday. The NPGA is the national trade association of the propane industry, representing the country’s 3,200 propane retailers, producers, transporters, and wholesalers. The election was held during Propane Days, the group’s annual legislative gathering in Washington, DC, which seeks to strengthen the industry through exposure and urging Congress to support policy objectives.

The group elected Carl Hughes to serve as its new Chairman. Hughes is a contributing columnist for LPGas Magazine and the senior vice president of Inergy, L.P., the fourth largest propane retailer in the country, catering to 700,000 customers across 33 states. An active member of the NPGA for many years, Hughes has also worked for Dynergy, LPG Services Group, and Ferrellgas in the past.

“Carl has served in previous leadership positions with NPGA and continues to be a valuable member of the NPGA leadership team,” commented Immediate Past Chairman Roland Penta. “I know that Carl’s expertise will take our association and industry to new heights in the coming years.”

The group also elected Gary France, the president of France Propane Services and former president of the Wisconsin Propane Gas Association, to serve as Vice-Chairman. Ray Murray, the co-chairman of Ray Murray, Inc. who’s been in the propane business for 30 years, will serve as the new Chairman-elect. And lastly, David Lugar, the vice president of Supply & Logistics for AmeriGas and a charter member of PERC, will serve as the NPGA’s new Treasurer.
