AmeriGas, the country’s largest marketer of propane, is opening a new facility in Trinidad, Colorado, the Trinidad Times reported today. The location will offer a full range of propane services, tank sizes and installation.

AmeriGas serves more than 1.3 million customers in nearly all 50 states. Confident the propane supplier will bring a boost in development to the local economy, the Trinidad-Las Animas County Economic Development committee welcomed company representatives to the neighborhood. Mila Sacket, Midwest account manager for AmeriGas, visited Trinidad earlier this week to greet local residents and remind them the company is offering customers a free tank swap, $50 off their first tank fill, and a 10-point safety inspection.

Some locals questioned whether the town’s open areas, vulnerable to wildfires, would be a tank safety issue.

“These tanks are pretty much bullet proof,” said Rick Rivers, manager of Colorado Springs operations, also on hand to check out the new facility. “The safety factors are built in, and there are safety valves on the tanks.”

“Safety is our number one concern,” Sacket agreed, assuring area propane users that AmeriGas offers 24-hour emergency on-call service and a no-run-out guarantee. “If someone has a leak or smells something that might be a leak, we’ve got a guy who’s on-call locally, who will come down and take care of it.”
