50 Degrees? That’s Propane Grilling Weather

Looks good, guys. Now where's the propane grill? (image: The New York Times)

Call us optimistic. Call us premature. But it’s going to be 50-some degrees in New York today, and it has us thinking: Grill time. To take advantage of the first mild day of the year, we are posting a tasty link from the New York Times, “101 Fast Recipes for Grilling.”

These are quick-hit recipes, which leave a lot of guesswork to the chef. So pick and choose as you go. And when in doubt, squeeze lemon over everything and douse it with salt.

And if 101 seems like too many recipes to sort through, try this combo for a south-of-the-border, Valentine’s Day feast.

#9. Grilled guacamole
Halve and pit avocados; lightly char them, then scoop out the flesh. Grill halved red onion, too. Chop, combine, add tomatoes, lime, garlic and spices if you like.

#10. Grilled corn (or elote when you’re buying it on a street corner in Tijuana)
Serve with mayo, minced garlic, pimentón and parsley.

#58. Shrimp & chorizo kebab
Serve with lemon or a little vinaigrette.
